What kind of trees are those in the middle photo?

possibly eucalyptus

That's what it looked like to me, but I didn't know you had them. They're from Australia, common in California and now I learn that they're in Israel too.

they were brought here somewhere between 1880 and 1930 by jewish settlers to dry malaria swamps

Isn't that interesting. I think of them as doing well in drier areas than that, so I wonder how much success those settlers enjoyed. I should think willows would have been better suited, but since they need a great deal of water, their success might have been their downfall, making it necessary to replant them as the water returned.
